Matthew Porter, a third-generation oil dealer, realized his dream of becoming a small business owner in 2006. He returned to his roots when he founded Tidewater Oil Company out of his dining room with one truck, offering Heating Oil and Kerosene at competitive prices. Raised in a family dominated by small business owners, Matt recognized the value of treating customers with respect and going beyond what other businesses were willing to do in order to meet the Customers' needs. He believed he could offer superior products and service at competitive prices, and he was determined to exceed his Customers' expectations. Matt's business ethics are unquestioned.
The year 2007 saw many changes. Matt relocated Tidewater Oil Company to its current location at 146 Church St., Belfast. This was the year our budget plans were first available. Matt's vision to provide full burner service and installations to his Customers led to sub-contracting services from several local independent technicians. In October 2008 Tidewater Oil added a second truck, hired an additional full-time driver.
After two years of subbing out service work, Matt decided to start his own full service department. In August of 2009, Tidewater Oil Company proudly started offering Full Service twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Our service technicians immediately demonstrated to our customers our commitment to ensuring they received the highest level of service in the area, reflecting Matt's own ethic of top quality service, delivered efficiently and courteously.
In 2010, Tidewater Oil began offering service plans, Tank Guard, and a variety of fuel additives to meet customer needs. With the economy faltering, Tidewater Oil continued to offer deliveries for as little as 50 gallons, recognizing many customers could not afford larger amounts. With the 2011/2012 heating season on the horizon Tidewater Oil will be celebrating 5 years in business. To thank all of our customers for helping us achieve this we will be giving away 500 gallons of fuel in April of 2012!
